Some ingredients simply belong together. In the perfume traditions of the Middle East, few pairings are as celebrated — or as luxurious — as saffron and oud.
The red gold
Saffron is the stigma of the crocus flower, harvested by hand, thread by thread. It takes an enormous number of flowers to produce a small amount of spice, which is why it has long been counted among the most valuable materials in the world. In perfumery, saffron brings a leathery, honeyed, slightly metallic warmth.
Why it works
Oud is deep, resinous and woody. Saffron is bright, golden and spiced. Together they create a natural contrast: saffron lifts and illuminates the darkness of oud, while oud gives saffron a foundation to rest on. The result feels both radiant and grounded.
“Saffron is the light. Oud is the shadow. Together, they are presence.”
Where to find it at TORAX
Saffron appears in the base of MAJESTIC, where it warms akigalawood, suede and vanilla, and at the heart of GLACIER, where it meets raspberry and amberwood above a base of oud. Two different expressions of the same golden partnership.
