In the world of oud, there is a word spoken with particular reverence. Collectors lower their voices for it. Master perfumers travel for years to find it. That word is Kinam — known in Japan as Kyara — and it describes the rarest grade of agarwood that nature has ever produced.
Born from a wound
All oud begins with injury. When the Aquilaria tree is wounded and infected, it defends itself by producing a dense, dark resin. Over decades — sometimes centuries — that resin saturates the heartwood and matures into the fragrant material we call oud.
Kinam is rarer still. It is a specific, still unexplained transformation that occurs in only a tiny fraction of wild agarwood. The resin it produces is softer, oilier and more complex than any standard oud, and it cannot be cultivated, rushed or synthesised.
“The rarest oud in the world — present in every pyramid level of every TORAX fragrance.”
A scent unlike any other
Where ordinary oud can feel harsh or purely animalic, Kinam is famous for its paradox: a cooling sensation layered with honeyed sweetness, bitter medicinal facets and an ethereal floral quality. It is at once ancient and alive.
The spine of the TORAX collection
At TORAX, a private reserve of vintage Kinam acts as the structural spine of the entire collection. It grounds the brightest top notes, deepens the heart and extends the life of the base — which is why a TORAX fragrance does not simply fade, but slowly reveals itself over hours.
Kinam is not a trend. It is a rarity that has been treasured for centuries — and the reason TORAX exists.
